Description of Service
The Alfred provides services to about 12,000 patients per year, with just over 60% of our work being of an emergency nature. The Operating Suite Service consists of 16 Theatres and 2 Procedure rooms across The Alfred and The Alfred Centre.
The Alfred Operating Suite
The Alfred Operating Suite consists of 10 Theatres. We undertake surgery for all major specialties with the exceptions being obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics.
The Alfred also provides state-wide services for trauma and burns. The Alfred boasts one of the world's busiest heart lung transplant units.
The majority of minor elective surgery is preformed at the Alfred Centre.
The Alfred Centre Operating and Procudural Suite
The Alfred Centre is an exciting and innovative new health care facility.
The Alfred Centre focuses on reducing elective surgery waiting times by separating emergency and elective surgery work at The Alfred Hospital, so that patients' surgery will not be postponed.
The Alfred Centre provides short-stay elective surgery. The Alfred Centre Operating Suite consists of 6 Theatres and 2 Procedure Rooms. Specialties include General, Orthopaedic, ENT, Plastic and Ophthalmic surgery.
