One sunny day in 2009, 21-year-old Jacob Fry didn't turn up for work. When his father, Paul, tried to reach him on his mobile it was a police officer who answered. It was the news no father wants to hear - his son had been in an horrific car accident and was being airlifted to The Alfred hospital. Jacob was given a five per cent chance of survival.

Close to 500 volunteers offer support across Alfred Health. Whether at The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital or Sandringham Hospital, the contribution is enormous and the experience and care they bring is valued by all.
