Alfred Health offers work experience placements for students in Year 10-12 at all three of our hospitals. To find out more, please click on the Hospital of interest.

The youthcentral website is the Victorian Government's web-based initiative for young people aged 12-25 where you can find out:

The Alfred

. The Alfred's Secondary Student Work Experience Program 2014

The Alfred school work experience program provides students with an opportunity to gain insight into the health care industry.

The program is offered to students undertaking years 10-12. Students participating in the program are given an opportunity to spend one week working within available departments to observe and participate in the daily activities of those departments.

The department's that participate in our Work Experience program include:-

  • Nursing
  • Radiology
  • Pharmacy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Nutrition
  • Vascular Laboratory
  • Rheumatology Unit
  • Capital Projects/Engineering
  • Human Resources

Please note we are unable to take placement students in the following areas: Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Operating Suites and Procedural Suites, including all Theatres and Procedural Rooms, Dental, Alfred Pathology Services and Patient and Family Services.

The program at The Alfred is very popular with students. This year we received over 500 applications!

How to apply?
The formal application process will involve completing an online application form. Our online process allows students to have a greater understanding of the process involved when job seekers apply for positions within our hospital.

The application form will detail:

  • The department you would like to complete your work experience placement
  • How you think it will assist you in choosing your further career
  • Dates of your placement

Applications for 2014 work experience placements will open on Monday 6 January 2014 and close on Sunday 9 February 2014.

Caulfield Hospital

Caulfield Hospital's Secondary Student Work Experience Program 2014

The Caulfield Hospital Secondary School Student Work Experience program provides students with an opportunity to gain an understanding and awareness of the role our Allied Health Departments have in making a difference to the lives of patients.

This program is offered to students undertaking years 10-12. Students participating in the program are given the opportunity to spend one week working in a variety of available Allied Health Departments to observe and participate in daily activities.

The participating Allied Health Departments are:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Pharmacy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Social Work
  • Podiatry

Please note that the work experience program consists of a week in all the Allied Health Departments listed above.

The formal application process will involve completing an online application form. Our online process allows students to have a greater understanding of the procedures involved when job seekers apply for positions within our hospital.

Applications for 2014 work experience placements will open on Monday 6 January 2014 and close on Sunday 9 February 2014.

Sandringham Hospital

Sandringham Hospital Work Experience Program 2014

The Sandringham Secondary School Student Work Experience program provides students with an opportunity to gain an understanding and awareness across the hospital including the role the hospital has in the delivery of elective surgery, general medical, Allied Health, women's health and maternity services.

This program is offered to students undertaking years 10-12. Students participating in the program are given the opportunity to spend one week working in a variety of departments at Sandringham Hospital to observe in daily activities.

During your placement at Sandringham Hospital you will visit over 10 departments which include:

  • Admissions
  • Nursing Education
  • Ward G2 - General Surgery
  • Physiotherapy
  • Consulting Clinic
  • Ward F2 - Medical Unit
  • Theatre
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Radiology
  • Pathology 
  • Ward F3 - Maternity
  • Special Care Nursery

Applications for the 2014 program will open on 4th November 2013 and close 2nd December 2013.  All applicants will be notified if they have been accepted or not around mid January 2014.
