The Alfred's lung health promotion centre has reached a major milestone, marking up 20 years of respiratory education since it opened in 1991.
It was the first health promotion centre of its kind in Victoria at the time and now the centre has seen 6000 health professionals attend its courses, which enables them to assist people with respiratory conditions.
The fully self-funded centre offers a range of educational courses, workshops and seminars plus provides a wide range of educational resources for health professionals working in lung disease management.
In recent years, the centre introduced a smoking cessation facilitator's course, which has helped shape the establishment of smoking cessation clinics throughout Victoria and other states.
Centre manager Adrienne James said the future looks bright, as more lung health professionals are choosing to expand their education, which means better management for people with respiratory illness.
