Thanks to The Honda Foundation and local dealer - Astoria Honda - Caulfield Hospital's podiatry department is one step closer to purchasing a state-of-the-art in-shoe pressure measuring device.
A generous donation of $10,000 from the foundation means Caulfield Hospital now has two-thirds of the funds required for this Pedar device. A wireless system, the pedar would be invaluable for diabetes patients, many of whom can not feel the pain that pressure sores cause and thus go unnoticed, leaving them in danger of possible amputation.
The pedar provides an actual visual image of the pressure areas so the patient can immediately see the highlighted red areas. This will allow podiatrists to review the actual figure and knowledgably apply appropriate insoles to reduce the pressure. As well as being a clinical tool, the device also acts as an educational tool for patients.
Caulfield Hospital's fundraising department is committed to fundraising for the full amount of the device.
Thank you to The Honda Foundation and Astoria Honda, who endorsed the proposal, for their ongoing support.
