Stand up paddlers will make history next month when they attempt to be the first individuals to paddle across Port Phillip Bay in an effort to raise funds for Sandringham Hospital.
The event which is being run by Bayside councillor Felicity Frederico, is scheduled for Sunday, 18 March. Paddlers will start at Indented Head and finish at Sandringham Yacht Club. They will cover a distance of approximately 40km, which will make The Mad Paddle the longest organised event of its kind in Australia.
For the last leg of the race, celebrity paddlers will join the challenge such as Aussie basketball ace, Mark Bradtke; 3AW presenter, Sally Cockburn (Dr Feelgood), Tammy Van Wisse (marathon swimmer) and local MP Andrew Robb.
In true Bayside style, the event will culminate at noon with a family BBQ at Sandringham Yacht Club. Local comedian Tim Smith will MC the event, while guests will have a chance to bid on the lavish live and silent auction items, which hope to raise more funds for the hospital.
