Who We Are
The Speech Pathology Department at Caulfield Hospital is part of the Alfred Health Speech Pathology Service which is an amalgamated department providing a service to The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital.
The Speech Pathology Department at Caulfield Hospital provides inpatient services for rehabilitation, aged care, residential care and aged psychiatry clients in addition to ambulatory services for rehabilitation clients.
The department also has professional links with both the Port Phillip and Caulfield Community Rehabilitation, and the Caulfield Community Health Service.
As such, continuum of care between acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and community services is maximized.
What Do We Do?
Patients are referred to Speech Pathology with a variety of difficulties including disorders of communication, swallowing, cognition, hearing and voice. The primary aim of intervention is to assist patients in reaching their optimal functional ability in these areas.
Common patient conditions managed include: stroke; head injury; progressive neurological diseases; burns; and complex and chronic medical conditions.
