The Alfred Psychiatry Department provides services to people who live in the Inner South East Area of Melbourne, that is the Middle Southern suburbs (cities of Stonnington, Port Philip, Bayside, Kingston and Glen Eira). These services are a combination of acute hospital care, community treatment and continuing care programs.
Currently there are 50 inpatient beds.

Seven day a week service and is available for all types of referrals and enquiries.
Provides an extensive service to consumers, family members and individuals attending the Emergency Department and the general wards of the hospital or requiring intensive community based treatment. The team assists in areas of primary and secondary consultation, management techniques and education of staff in the case of persons with psychiatric, personality and adjustment disorders. Close liaison is maintained between the inpatient units and community services to ensure continuity of care for existing clients and appropriate referral for new clients of The Alfred Psychiatric Service.
CATS provide a 24 hour, seven day a week assessment and treatment program to people who experience a mental health crisis. These services are intensive in nature, community based and offer an alternative to hospitalisation. If hospitalisation is required, CATS will facilitate the process and follow up after discharge if required.

The MSTS provides intensive, mobile, supportive services to people living in the community with severe psychiatric illness.
The team operates on an outreach model and is available 7 days a week.

The team works co-operatively with the client, engaging them on their own terms and the agencies that are involved in their care. This is a six day a week service.
