About The Alfred
Founded in 1871, The Alfred is one of Australia's leading tertiary hospitals and is an integral part of the Victorian landscape. The Alfred enjoys national acclaim as a progressive hospital at the forefront of advances in acute care medicine and health care.
Our priority is high quality cost-effective patient care founded on excellent practice, teaching and research. We care for everyone, no matter how complex his or her health problem. As a team, we strive to provide service and care which improves the quality of life of our patients.

The Alfred Nursing Services is committed to providing outstanding nursing care and service in an environment where patient centred care, respect and trust are evident in all interactions with our patients, carers and colleagues.
Primary nursing is our nursing care delivery system which operationalises the professional accountability of the registered nurse. The concepts on which primary nursing are based are continuity of nursing care for patients, the acceptance by a designated nurse for the accountability for the outcomes of nursing care and the overall coordination of care of multiple disciplines.

The Alfred employs more than 1200 nurses across a wide range of general and specialty areas including oncology, trauma, infectious diseases, hyperbaric medicine, intensive care, respiratory, renal, neurology, emergency, palliative care, cardiology, psychiatry, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and burns.
